Music in New Orleans
Recently I went to New Orleans, which is without doubt one of the most interesting cities of the USA. I was particularly impressed by the music: you can go in any random bar and listen to amazing bands any day of the week. It ranges from traditional dixieland to swing to rock jazz - and even the music in the hotel elevators is tastefully selected ;)

San Sebastian
The last stop on our summer tour was San Sebastian and the spanish basque country. We enjoyed the city, the coast and the food a lot!

La Brèche de Roland
One of the destinations during our hiking trips in the Pyrenees was the Brèche de Roland, a gigantic 'gap' in one of the mountain ranges close to Gavarnie. It's 40 m wide and 100 m high and offers spectacular views both from afar and from within. Here are three pictures I took, the first showing the Brèche as part of a panorama (slightly to the right from the center), the second being a close-up and the third being an 'over the head'-panorama taken while standing in the Brèche.

The Gavarnie falls
During our visit to the Pyrenees, we stayed in the village of Gavarnie, at the entrance of the famous Cirque du Gavarnie. This impressive amphitheater-like valley contains at its end the Gavarnie falls, which are at 422 m the highest waterfalls of Europe France.

The Pyrenees
Two weeks ago we came back from our belated summer holidays, which we spend in the south-west of France and the north-east of Spain. Apart from enjoying the atlantic ocean (with all its fishes and seafood), we spent a couple of days hiking in the Pyrenees. The weather was perfect and the mountains are really beautiful! More pictures coming soon ...

New galleries online
I finally managed to finish and upload the galleries from my trips to southeast asia and southwest england / wales earlier this year to my webpage at colors and contrasts. I also incorporated this blog on the webpage, which should be the preferred way of visiting this blog from now on (even though it will stay available at this address too).

Mountains of Greece: Hiking in Zagori
With this post I'll start something a bit different. So far I posted pictures more or less chronologically, usually shortly after I took them. Today, I want to start a series of images related by a common theme. Most images won't be very recent, and you might know some of them already from my galleries.
As the title says, the theme of this series will be "Mountains of Greece". I can imagine though, that I will also use other themes in the future. Suggestions are very welcome!

Dimitra & Yiannis
Some weeks ago we were invited to celebrate and photograph the wedding of our very good friends Dimitra and Yiannis in Greece. It was a wonderful day - we had a lot of fun and took a lot of pictures ...
One of the most beautiful parts of the orthodox wedding ceremony is the exchange of the stefana, two 'crowns' connected by a ribbon, symbolizing the connection between the husband and wife, which are crossed over the heads of the couple by the best man or the maid of honor. Here the priest is presenting the stefana and blessing the couple.
Another, equally important part of a greek weeding is ... the dancing during the party following the church ceremony. Here the couple is dancing with their koumbaros, the greek version of the best man.

South England & Wales
Recently we visited South England and Wales, the home of our good friend and best man Phil. It was a great trip, and - as you would expect from a trip to the UK - included a lot of wind, rain and ale. The landscape is very beautiful and the people are simply great: warm, welcoming and hospitable.

Greetings from Athens
Two days ago we landed in Athens for a 4-day mini-vacation. In these four days, we'll visit the island of Poros (we are actually already back in Athens), listen to a concert at the Irodion amphitheater at the slopes of the Acropolis, go to the wedding of our friends Dimitra and Yannis (as guests and official photographers) and visit Ioannas family in their village. I guess we need a vacation after the vacation ...
Here a picture taken just before our landing in Athens.

Singapore skyline
Today two panoramas I took from the top of the Marina Bay Sands (the futuristic building on the left side of this panorama) in Singapore. It's a spectacular and a bit frightening view down to the financial center of Singapore.

Monkeys!
As promised in the last post, we are now getting to some more exotic animals than butterflies. Let's start with some monkey shots.

Chillin'
In Malaysia, I took a lot of pictures of animals. Before we get to the more exotic animals such as monkeys, eagles and leguans, today a butterfly picture ... but not your typical butterfly-on-a-flower picture. I really liked the laid-back attidue of this particular butterfly dude.

Streets of Penang
On my short trip to Malaysia, I also visited the island of Penang and its major city Georgetown, which is a wonderful mixture of all the cultures you can find in Malaysia. In addition it offers some of the best street-food of the country...

Storm over Langkawi
Recently I'm enjoying more and more to take panorama pictures (see for example here). During my visit to Singapore, I also visited the island of Langkawi in Malaysia. I went up to the peak of Gunung Mat Chinchang, where we were surprised by a thunderstorm passing over the island. Before getting completely wet, I was able to capture this panorama, which is probably my most spectacular panorama so far. Click here to see a higher resolution version.

Spaceship
I did quite some travelling recently, which is the reason why I haven't posted anything in the last weeks. It also means, however, that I have a lot of new pictures, from which I'll post in the weeks to come. Let's stay chronological and start with another image from my trip to Singapore.
